Door to door cold callers |
||
Dear residents of Herne & Broomfield,
We’ve recently received reports of a cold caller operating in the local area, attempting to purchase gold from residents. Officers have attended and taken details, which are currently being looked in to. We’re sharing this message as a reminder to remain vigilant when answering the door to unexpected visitors. Some cold callers may use high-pressure tactics to encourage immediate decisions, particularly around selling valuables. If you ever feel unsafe or threatened, please call 999. For non-emergency concerns, you can contact us via 101 or report online through the Kent Police website. Here are some key safety tips: Do not disclose possession of gold, jewellery, or other valuables to cold callers. Politely decline and avoid inviting them into your home, regardless of how professional or friendly they may appear. Ask for identification and check it carefully. If possible, make a note of the company name and the individual’s details. For further guidance, Kent County Council provides helpful information on doorstep crime: We also encourage everyone to look out for neighbours—especially those who may be more vulnerable to these types of approaches. A quick check-in or conversation can make a big difference.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our community safe.
Kind regards, Herne & Broomfield beat officer
